Thanks for visiting our website

At Principal Strategy we believe people are the most important asset of any business. Through investing in your people, all other elements fall into place – customer satisfaction, commercial and employer reputation, business growth and profitability.

No one wakes up and says "I'm going to do a bad job today". It's the environment that surrounds them that affects their productivity.

Practicing what you preach

In 2003, the marketing company I worked for as HR & finance director and then chief operating officer reported an audited loss of 31K. The management team and I scurried behind closed doors, trying to sort things out and doing whatever we could to make sure no one else knew what we were up to. We thought keeping the problems to ourselves was doing the right thing. Morale was low and staff unhappy. Although we had a good relationship with our staff, cracks were starting to show.

So we put some simple initiatives into place. Using a book written by David Maister called Practice What You Preach, we identified we were weak in three areas – training and development, communicating our vision and strategy, workplace communication.

We doubled our training and development budget, set up client teams to promote a healthy competitive culture to track our clients' profitability and initiated regular company meetings to communicate news to employees, good and bad.

Staff started to feel reassured and began to trust us again. That year, despite tough times, we reported an audited profit of 523K. The way we had treated our workforce had a direct link to business performance.

Adding commercial value with HR

After six years as HR & finance director and chief operating officer for a global US communications organisation, I decided to move into an exclusive HR role. I wanted to demonstrate how HR could add commercial value to a business and in 2006 became group head of human resources for a European IT/ Telco organisation.

I introduced a variety of business critical initiatives to improve culture, workforce performance and group communication. As a result, business performance increased, morale improved and in just one year staff turnover was reduced from 56% to 22% -- saving the organisation over £1 million.

Taking the plunge

In 2008, I took the plunge and set up Principal Strategy, to put into practice what I'd learned in my professional life and bring the benefits to other companies. We've already had some great successes. See what some of our clients have to say.

I believe Principal Strategy can help you with almost any commercial predicament so please give me a call for an informal chat to see how we can work together.

I look forward to hearing from you.
